When I moved to a new house, I needed help stacking my custom-configured Ikea Sektion kitchen cabinets. Being new to the neighborhood, I didn’t know many people well enough yet to ask for their help with manual labor, and I wasn’t strong enough to lift the 2nd row of tall cabinets on top of the 1st row of short cabinets. It was time to work smarter and not harder.
- Remove as much weight as possible. Luckily, the Blum hardware on these Sektion cabinets makes that relatively easy.
- Lay the cabinet on its face with its bottom towards the bottom row of cabinets.
- Lift the bottom end of the 2nd-row cabinet on top of the 1st-row cabinet. It may be heavy, but at least it’s half the weight of lifting the entire cabinet straight up.
- Lift the top end of the cabinet and stand it up.
- Replace the doors and drawers, and then take a well-deserved break.
